Late May Watersports/Social Weekend

Words and photos - Eddie Burt

For the late May Bank Holiday some members camped at the club and invited friends and family to join them on the water too. A good smattering took up the opportunity. The weather was warm and the wind light, which suited paddling. On the Sunday we ran some windsurfing coaching, of which, more below ...

Windsurfing course

Five WPWC members took part in the windsurf training course run by Paul Adams on behalf of the RYA. The weather was glorious and only lacking in one respect - very little wind, as you can see in the pictures, the flags barely fluttered. However, the reservoir was pretty full and everyone was keen to get onto the water.

Paul advised floaty boards and smaller sails and the first hour was spent checking rigs and rigging for the conditions on the day, but also giving input about the tweaks and changes that could be made for stronger wind conditions.

Everyone got on the water and Paul proceeded to run the course from an inflatable in the middle of the reservoir, in variable light to minimal wind conditions. All of the participants seemed to enjoy the day and were happy with what they had learned - hopefully advancing them a little further along the windsurfing learning curve.

The club provided a barbecue for lunch which seemed much appreciated in that all the food went!

Many thanks to the RYA for facilitating an excellent day’s tuition by Paul Adams.
